Definition

According to the Royal Academy of Spanish Language Dictionary, the meaning for Philately is: " The Art dealing of knowledge of the postal stamps". At general, is refered to all matters relationed with the hobby to collect stamps and any one of postal goods.

How is an stamp?

It is a piece of paper, usually small, with edges almost toothed. It has a price marked that correspond to the facial value or change, meaning the value of the transport services of a letter.

1. Toothed: the toothed, result from the form that the stamps are separated one from the other, this measurement and indicated with numers that correspond to the number or thooth contained in two centimeters.

2. Margins: Some stamps, specially of the older emissions, were separated with scissors. The good centred stamps have all the margins equal. The centered is a characteristic very important to determine the quality.

3. Facial value: It is the stamp price. Some times correspond to a postal rate.

4. Gum: The posterior part of the paper is gummed to permit they putting on the envelop.

5. Motive: It is the figure that reproduce on the stamp, with illustrations related with a conmmemoration, event, or person or another cultural characteristic that the country want to represent.

6. Legend: An explanation about the significance, idea or motive of the stamp.

7. Country: Every stamp show the name of the country that make the emission, except Great Britain, represented by the image of the Queen.

8. Printed foot: It is the name of the House that printed the stamp, some times the year of the emission and the name of the artist designer or the stamp.
